9 Days Shalu to Nartang Trekking

 

The trekking tour from Shalu Monastery to Nartang Monastery is a good choice if you don’t have much time but still want a taste of trekking without commitment of a long or difficult route; the two passes crossing along the way are not particularly high compared to most other walks in Tibet.

We will have two full days exploring Lhasa city, and you are also given the chance to visit Dzong and Kumbum in Gyantse city, which gives you enough time for acclimatization before the trek. Our tours ends with an easy visit to Shigatse, Tashilumpo Monastery.

IITINERARY

Day 1 Arrive in Lhasa, pick up by your guide and private car, then drive to your 3 stars hotel, have a good rest for acclimatization

Once you arrive at Gonggar airport or Lhasa Train Station, an easy one hour or half hour drive will take you to your final destination of the traditional Kailash Hotel, Dhood Gu Hotel, Kyichu Hotel, Yak Hotel or Shambala Hotel, etc. The remainder of the day can be spent relaxing and exploring some of the many sights in Lhasa.

Day 2 Visit Jorkhang Temple, Barkhor Street, Drepung Monastery in Lhasa

On this second day morning we will take an easy visit to Jokhang Temple. This temple is the most revered shrine in all of Tibet and is constantly bustling with devout worshippers. We will also be given the opportunity to shop in Barkor, the crowded central market of Lhasa. In the afternoon we will visit is Sera Monastery, a fifteenth century sprawl of golden roofs and whitewashed walls. This well preserved monastery is located just a few miles North of Lhasa and is home to several hundred monks. its famous debating activities are happening 3-4pm quite regularly every day, so remind our guide not to miss it.

Day 3 Visit Potala Palace, Sera Monastery in Lhasa

A trip to Tibet would not be complete without experiencing the vital Potala Palace. This palace is Lhasa's cardinal landmark and is a wonder of Eastern architecture. Your first site of this massive structure will be a magical moment remembered for years to come. It has been a palace since the fifth or sixth century and was once home to the Dalai Lama. This truly amazing day will ended with a visit to the Drepung Monastery. Once the world's largest monastery, housing 10,000 monks, Drepung monastery lies hidden in rocky ridges just beyond the city. Surprisingly much of the building was left untouched throughout so many hundred of years.

Day 4 Drive Lhasa to Gyantse via Yamdrok Lake

We will corss two high passes over 5000m Khamba La and Kharo La plus one beautiful Lake - Yamdrok Tso provide wondrous views of the Himalayan range. A colossal glacier rises nearly straight up from the road as we pass Kharo La. The drive is no daunting task as we pass through many more beautiful Tibetan valleys and quiet villages along the way. When reach Gyantse, We will be given the opportunity of experiencing more wondrous Tibetan culture as we see the Gyangtse Dzong and Kumbum. Expansive views of the valley can be seen from the ancient Dzong fort. The Kumbum is much more than a stupa, as it is surrounded by numerous Tibetan murals and small chapel houses. Even if you are no art connoisseur you will be amazed by these ancient murals and architecture.

Day 5 Drive Gyantse to Shalu Monastery

Driving to Shalu Monastery from Gyantse, only 85km away. Visit Shalu Monastery. Then start our trekking. An easy walk from Shalu Monastery to upper Lungsang takes 5-6 hours. We will cover about 19 kilometers today. Camping to upper Lungsang.

Day 6 Upper Lungsang to Ngor Monastery

It will cost you at least 3 hours from Upper Lungsang to the Char-la. From Upper Lungsang the trail cuts across the valley floor gradually making its way back to the northern side of the valley.

There is a side stream and small reservoir (4190m) 45 minutes above Upper Lungsang. This is the last convenient place to collect water until over the pass. From the Char-la, mountain ranges stretch to the west across the horizon and Nogor Monastery is visible directly below. 8km takes 4 hours to cover, we will camping at Ngor Monastery today.

Day 7 Ngor Monastery - Nartang Monastery to Shigatse, trekking 5-6 hours, 19km

Today trekking from Ngor to Nartang by passing several villages, saddles, and one electric utility. After arriving at Nartang Monastery, our driver will pick you up to Shigatse. Overnight at Shigatse

Day 8 Shigatse to Lhasa

Visiting Tashilunpo Monastery and the spectacular tombs of Panchen Lamas in Shigatse, afternoon drive back to Lhasa. Overnight at Lhasa.

Day 9 Depart Tibet for your next destination

Your guide and driver with the private vehicle will see you off to the Lhasa Train Station or Lhasa Gongkhar Airport, your Tibet tour with our agency ends
